Hey there, congratulations on that precious little one you're carrying – what an exciting journey you're on! I can see you're gearing up to book your newborn session, and I'm here to lend a helping hand. As a Sacramento newborn photographer, I've got some tips to ensure your newborn session goes off without a hitch and makes life a whole lot easier for you.

Before the Session:

  1. Outfit Planning: First things first, let's talk about what you'll wear (or even better, consider letting your photographer handle this!). As your due date approaches, the last thing you want is the stress of outfit planning. Does your photographer offer a client wardrobe? Trust me, it's a game-changer, Mama. With so much on your plate during this season of life, leaving this to the photographer ensures you'll have gorgeous, coordinating outfits that photograph beautifully and are prepped, steamed, and ready to slip into.
  2. Hair and Makeup: Let's talk about hair and makeup – and trust me, you won't regret this. Some photographers can recommend talented hair and makeup artists in your area. Even better, some include this as part of their experience! It's completely normal to have self-conscious moments during pregnancy and the postpartum period – I totally get it. That's all the more reason to invest in hair and makeup on the day of your session. You want to feel stunning and self-assured as you walk past those framed memories on your wall for years to come. This is an investment in feeling amazing and loving how you look in those lasting photos. No regrets here!
  1. Day of Your Session:
  1. Feed Baby: On the big day, make sure your baby has a full tummy just before the session starts. This might involve waking your little one or adjusting their feeding schedule for the day. Trust me, it's worth it! A well-fed baby is generally a content baby. Try to keep your baby awake for about an hour before the session begins; this will make it easier to soothe them to sleep and keep them snoozing through the session.
  2. Prepare Your Home: If your session is an in-home lifestyle shoot, prep your living space. Select a couple of rooms with the best natural light, clear away clutter, and tidy up. Less is more when it comes to decor – it keeps the focus on your beautiful family and creates a stunning backdrop for your photographs.
  3. Get Siblings Ready: Lastly, let's set your older siblings up for success! Steer clear of screen time just before or during the session. Designate Dad or another family member to keep the kids happy – cater to their needs and play with them so they're having a blast even before the session kicks off! Pick a photographer with ample experience working with little ones who knows just how to coax out those genuine smiles and giggles. Trust me, those are the moments you'll want to treasure forever!

I can wait to document the first year of this little sweetie, his mama joined the Collective Membership to make sure no milestone will be missed. Just look at those sweet soul-piercing eyes. He is obviously very loved and will be doted on by his sweet siblings.

Oh, to be young again, holding my first baby, filled with excitement and trepidation. Not fully knowing what lies ahead but knowing fully I am exactly where I am meant to be. Madison's beautiful lace dress is part of the studio wardrobe offered to mothers. I have a lovely selection of dresses to choose from, which takes some of the pressure off planning your newborn session. Each new mama I meet brings me back, back to the first days of becoming . . .  becoming a mother is transformative in both big and small ways. For almost a year you have dreamed of this little one, now in your arms, what will they look like, who will they become, it is the most exquisite journey. I loved being a small part of welcoming Audrey to the world, documenting those first days of the love of a lifetime.

How blessed am I to be able to document the sweetest babies. Just take a look at little Wells, born at 6 pounds 7 ounces he is just perfection. I have had the privilege of photographing both of his brothers as well. You can take a peek at Beckett's newborn session &  Fitz's newborn session to see just how much these boys look alike. Their mama is a photographer friend of mine over at Nichole Bremer Photography, which is such a compliment that she chose me to document her babies! The complete joy of first-time parents, they way they marvel at every little thing their new babe does, I love it so much and we were able to capture just that in this Roseville Newborn Photography Studio session. Manroop cam in a little older than most of my newborn clients, but that just meant I was able to capture great eye contact and his developing personality. He is such a happy and sweet baby, cooing and smiling his entire session. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed creating them.

I loved having this sweet family in the studio and James was so sweet and sleepy for his session. It is so heart warming to watch new parents swoon over their new babies. It brings me back to those early days with my own little ones and the sleepless, love filled days and nights. Nothing makes me happier than when clients understand my vision, and say things like "I love the simplicity of your sleeping baby "poses" without all the props or odd positions that I see with other photographers-just how it looks more natural'. And so that is exactly what we did. Natural, relaxed, beautiful portraits of this sweet baby and his lovely parents.

I let the babies speak to me. It's amazing the way babies position themselves. And, while I may gently guide them, I try to capture their unique personality. Years from now, I want parents to look back at these images and say . . . 'Remember how he always had his hand by his face, even in the ultrasounds..."
