A Love Letter to Childhood

Every February, I see families searching for Valentine mini sessions.

They’re popular for a reason. They’re quick, festive, and fun—a way to mark the season with something sweet.

But over the years, I’ve also heard a quieter sentiment from parents who reach out to me:

“I want something that feels more meaningful.”
“I don’t want themes or props this year.”
“I want photos that won’t feel dated in a few months.”

If that sounds familiar, I want to offer a different way to celebrate love this Valentine’s season.

When Valentine Minis Aren’t Quite Your Style

Traditional Valentine mini sessions often focus on a specific look—hearts, colors, sets, and a short window of time to get the image and move on.

There’s nothing wrong with that.

But they’re not designed to slow down.
They’re not designed to linger.
And they’re rarely designed to last beyond the season they’re created for.

For families craving something quieter, more intentional, and more timeless, an alternative can feel refreshing.

Who Your Child Is Right Now

The love that shapes us most isn’t loud.

It’s found in the way your child concentrates when they’re thinking.
In the softness of their expression when they feel safe.
In the subtle gestures that change before we even realize they have.

That’s what I’m drawn to photograph.

Rather than creating themed Valentine portraits, I created The Light Between as a fine art black and white childhood portrait experience—designed to honor presence, connection, and who your child is in this exact season of life.

Why Black and White Feels Different

Black and white removes distraction.

Without color or props competing for attention, what remains is expression, light, and emotion. These portraits feel quieter, more focused, and deeply personal.

They aren’t tied to a holiday or trend.
They don’t announce a season.
They simply hold on to a feeling.

This is what makes them timeless.

What Makes This a Valentine Alternative

The Light Between isn’t a Valentine mini session rebranded.
It’s intentionally different.
These studio sessions are:

-Short but unrushed
-Child-led and gently guided
-Free from themes or sets
-Photographed entirely in fine art black & white

They are designed to feel calm and comfortable for children of all ages, allowing space for authenticity rather than performance.
