An Artist-Led Studio Portrait Experience
An Artist-Led Studio Portrait Experience
This series is created slowly and intentionally in my studio, using natural, directional light and a minimalist approach that allows emotion to take center stage.
There are no elaborate props.
No forced smiles.
No distractions competing for attention.
What remains is something honest and enduring.
I guide each session gently, but I never rush a child or ask them to be anything other than themselves. I follow their lead, allowing space for stillness, curiosity, and authenticity to emerge naturally.

For the Moments Between Milestones
These portraits are not about firsts.
They are not about what your child has accomplished or how old they are on paper.
They are about the in-between moments—the ones we rarely think to document, but feel most deeply when we look back. The way childhood felt while we were still inside it.
This is where memory lives.
Why Black & White Childhood Portraits Endure
Black & white removes what isn’t essential.
Without color to distract, we notice expression more clearly. We see light, gesture, emotion, and form. The images become quieter—and in that quiet, more powerful.
This choice is intentional.
It’s what gives these portraits their sense of permanence.
They are designed to live on walls, in albums, and in the spaces where memory is kept—not just on screens.

A Quiet Way to Remember This Season
The Light Between offers something different from traditional children’s portraits.
What to Expect from Your Studio Session
Each session is calm, unrushed, and thoughtfully guided.
Sessions are approximately 15 minutes, with a little additional time allowed when siblings are included. Photographed entirely in fine art black & white, each session follows a child-led flow with gentle guidance—never forced, never rushed.
There is minimal posing, no themes or sets, and space for your child to simply be themselves. Parents are welcome to step in for a few quiet frames of connection, if desired.
The experience is designed to feel safe, comfortable, and respectful of children of all ages.
Offered in Limited Studio Sessions Twice Each Year
The Light Between is offered in limited studio sessions twice annually:
Late Winter
Late Summer
Wardrobe & Styling with Intention
Wardrobe plays a meaningful role in how these portraits feel.
I provide a refined wardrobe guide to help you choose pieces that photograph beautifully in black & white—soft textures, timeless silhouettes, and neutral tones that allow your child to remain the focus.
All outfits are thoughtfully reviewed prior to the session to ensure they align with the artistic vision of the series. My guidance is gentle, but intentional, and always rooted in creating the most beautiful final artwork possible.
A Fine Art Child Photographer Serving Sacramento & Roseville
I’ve spent years photographing families and children in this community, and what I’ve learned is simple:
The images that matter most aren’t the ones that show what happened.
They’re the ones that show how it felt.
This series is an extension of that belief—a quieter, more intentional way of preserving childhood as it is, without rushing it into a box or a theme.
The Light Between is a fine art black and white child portrait series in Sacramento, created as a love letter to who your child is right now. Photographed in my studio and guided gently by emotion rather than posing, these portraits honor presence, connection, and the fleeting beauty of childhood.
